GGCS – Summer Season

GG-Champ-Series-Summer-LongThe Spring season of the Gamer’s Gauntlet Championship Series is almost over. The finals for both the Limited and Standard divisions are set, and our champions will be determined on Saturday, May 10th.

However, regardless of whether you’re preparing for the finals or not, the Summer season is upon us! The leader board has been reset, and everyone is on equal footing. Our Standard event this Thursday, May 1st is your first chance to start earning points towards a qualification in the Summer finals, where prestige, prizes, and free entry into our events will be up for grabs!

The rules are simple. Every sanctioned event you play in (except Prereleases of course) from May through July counts towards your standing. Just like in a normal tournament, you earn three points for a win and one for a draw. Points are updated weekly and are posted in-store and on our Facebook page so you can see how you stack up against your friends and everyone in the community.

At the end of August, the Top 16 players in the Standard division are invited to compete in a single elimination Standard event with best-of-five matches using the modified play-draw rule. The winner receives a box of Magic: The Gathering boosters and a championship playmat. The runner-up wins $50 in store credit, and both players earn free entry into our Standard FNM events for the following season.

Dan Fountain has qualified for both the Standard and Limited finals in each of the first two seasons.

Similarly, our Top 8 Limited players are invited to play in a complimentary draft of the latest Magic set. Matches are, again, best-of-five using the modified play-draw rule. The winner of this single elimination event earns a box of Magic boosters and a championship playmat, while the 2nd place finisher wins 18 booster packs. Both finalists earn free entry to three of our FNM or Saturday draft events during the following season.

After four seasons, there will be an end-of-year championship event featuring the best and brightest players from each of the eight finals events. There aren’t many details yet, but it’s sure to be a blast to play in. Keep your eyes on our Facebook page or this here website for details.

There are over twenty-five chances to earn points in each bracket, so there are a few ways to earn an invite to the Summer finals. Some people play early and often to build a big lead, others like to play catch-up and play more later in the season, still others just try to be consistent and play in one event a week, so there are lots of ways to qualify.

But you can’t qualify if you don’t play, so get out there and sling some spells!

See you Thursday,
